In the beginning, they raised $45 million in seed money that would firmly plant St. Francis Hospital amid a post-war economy that was severely drained by the mobilization efforts of World War II. The very first patient was admitted four years later in April 1950. During the first year, the hospital admitted 4,733 patients.
